About Rachel Kate
Rachel Kate is president and lead designer of Rachel Kate Design, a Minneapolis and South Florida based design business. Rachel focuses on Residential Interior Design but has a sub-division of the company that focuses on Bridal Gown and Event Design
She was raised Minneapolis by a family in which the men were all custom motorcycle builders and the women all had a great eye for design and were talented in sewing and other arts. After high school she was to attend technical college and follow in a long family tradition working on automobiles. Then the mail came, she was accepted to study Fashion Design at Parson’s School of Design in New York City, she was up for a challenge. With a combination of construction and design Rachel felt she had a good back round to build a career in the design industry.
After graduation from Parsons School of Design and working as an intern for Playboy Enterprises, Inc. as the assistant to the Head of Product Development in New York, Rachel Kate moved back to Minneapolis to be closer to her mother who eventually passed away from ovarian cancer. Soon after Rachel picked up and moved to Florida where she started working as an interior designer for a European kitchen design company. “It was something my mother always wanted to do and something just came over me, I had to try it.” For the past 12 years Rachel has been traveling across the US working as a residential interior designer and furniture designer. She has lived/worked in NY, LA, South Florida, Minneapolis and even in the mountains of Montana. She enjoys painting, sewing and building. She is very hands-on with everything she does. Continuing to utilizing her degree in Fashion Studies she has a small couture wedding dress design business and even launched a line of handbags, but Interiors is her main focus.
